Mending
So I finally got the machine to Wimbledon. Let’s not talk about the drive – it was horrible. The lovely woman from the shop called today and apparently it needs a bit more than a service, but I stopped listening after ‘new feed dogs’, due to the overwhelming guilt of working the thing to death.
And since I now have to spend sixty quid on having it mended I naturally thought of replacing it at Christmas, if I do indeed get back to making stuff and not just wistfully staring at pictures of fabric on the internet.
The dilemma is which machine to choose – there are so many out there. And am I being unfaithful to my little Brother by getting it fixed only to wish I had something better?
Hi, I just discovered your blog and I too had just replaced my 10 year old machine. I’ve done lots of research and highly recommend a Bernina machine, the entry level one costs £399 (Bernina Activa 220) but it is supposed to last you a lifetime as apparently they are the rolls royce of sewing machines, plus the after sales service is excellent, the only downside is that attachments are also expensive, I just found out that the Sew N’ Cut attachment costs £75 (lets you do some serging if you don’t have an overlocker machine) compared to a similar one from Singer for $20 from the States. I found the following websites useful when selecting my new machine:

Hope these help.

Naw!
If you can, get a new machine! Perhaps Brother is feeling tired and wants to have a nice long sleep. Besides your sewing is going to be so much easier to do, and enjoyable on a swish shiny new model…
