Little felt things

This must be the quickest turnaround in this blog’s history – only yesterday I talked of my intention to make some little decorations for christmas and here they are, heavily inspired by the little trees Monda made. I think they’re much better than the thing I actually spent money on last year – both mine and Monda’s :)

I had a very happy afternoon playing with felt, drawing shapes, cutting things out and putting them together. I also rifled through the stash and found nice embroidery threads and all sorts of other things I didn’t realise I had. And all done with Persuasion playing along in the background. Twice. (I know. I really must get to that Regency Dress (the slowest turn around in this blog’s history). I need help buying fabric.)

The nicest thing is that I felt like I was playing, which is nice antidote to the ‘work sewing’ I’ve been doing for the fair. Less sweat shop, more sweet shop.

Very cute! I’m a recent felt convert too and you’re right, it does feel like playing! I love that you don’t need to worry about edges fraying! :)

I have a bunch of felt left over from some other crafts, I should make some of these! I need to get moving on holiday crafting!

I giggled when you said you FELT like you were playing! (it was the Felt that did it I guess.)

Hi Jo

We have a tradition in my family that one new ornament gets bought every year to go on the Christmas tree – usually we pick up something when we are on holiday so we have the memory of the trip on the tree. But we didn’t do that this year, so maybe I will take inspiration from you and make them this year. Seems to me like this would have three benefits – probably cheaper in this economic climate that could only be a good thing – if not cheaper, then better for the money – yours are lovely – and there would be the “playing” aspect as well – we should all have less sweat and more sweet! Now – we need to see that Regency Dress, because it is such a cool pattern ….! ;o) Judy

They look really cute, especially with the buttons. Seeing these I, of course, immediately contemplate making something similar with my son. Better to check that back with reality though, before I hit the fabric store for felt.

And it’s showing how much you love sewing if you sew something as a break from your sewing work.

Oh, your felted ornaments came out looking so much better than the ones I made years ago. Maybe I should try again.
